Crossroads Botswana July 18 - August 8, 2008!
This coming summer, Lutheran Bible Translators will be leading Crossroads
to Botswana in southern Africa. We are very excited about returning to this location
and look forward to our time with the Veiths, Megahans, Beckendorfs, and Knights.
Each of these LBT teams is involved in various ministries throughout Botswana.
If you have any interest in linguistics, literacy, or translation, primarily
within the Lutheran context, then you should not miss this opportunity! Come
expand your mission vision with LBT. It is expected be a three-week
long outreach, beginning with meeting teammates from around the country for
pre-field training and orientation in Chicago, then flying to Gabarone, Botswana,
southern Africa.
Who can go on Crossroads Botswana?
Crossroads is open to United States or Canadian citizens and permanent residents
18 years of age or older who are seriously considering a long-term commitment to
missions and want to find out where they might fit in with LBT. Team members
need to be commited to ministry and have a heart for missions. There is limited
space on this year's Crossroads Trip so be sure to request
an application early. Registration is due April 18, 2008.
The purpose of Crossroads is to provide mission-minded individuals with a realistic
vision of life on the mission field with LBT while making a significant contribution
to the ministries already in place. It is LBT’s goal that through their experience
on Crossroads, individuals will be better equipped to make the decision whether or
not God is preparing them for service with LBT.
Ministry Description
After pre-field training and orientation in Chicago, you and your teammates will fly
to the capital of Gaborone in Botswana, in southern Africa. While there, we will have
several different ministry opportunities, which could include:
- Assisting in an Ethnomusicology Workshop
- Observing the Kalanga Old Testament translation in progress
- Conducting Scripture Use workshops in remote areas to facilitate evangelism efforts
- Partnering with local congregations to improve existing ministry facilities or prepare land for a future Cultural Center
- Providing training opportunities for local literacy workers
- Ministering through music and drama
The building of Christ-centered relationships between the missionaries, the national
people, and our team will be our primary focus throughout our ministry time in
Botswana. In everything we do, we will ask the question, “How does this help build
that relationship?”
Our time together will include daily group devotional and debriefing times as we rely
on the Lord to guide our team in ministry.
