Vernacular Media Specialist
Sometimes it’s hard to draw the line between Scripture Use and Vernacular Media, since the VM specialist is responsible for helping to develop non-print media that will be used to encourage people to use Scripture. Non-print refers to cassette recordings of Scripture, video or dubbing audio into existing video, film strips, flip charts and other visuals, just to name a few. The VM specialist will often work on the field, using nationals to record Scripture or act out parts of Biblical characters. Improvisation is not unusual. The recording studio may be nothing more that a small room or closet, lined with mattresses and shielded by blankets.
VM employs a variety of methods, all designed with the goal of making Scripture available to those who may not be reached through written text. It involves hard work and long hours. It requires technical expertise along with creativity and adaptability. And yes, people skills are required as you work closely with nationals to produce non-print materials that will engage people's hearts and minds as they see and hear Scrpture come alive.
