Language Survey Specialist
Language Survey is the first step in the translation process. So you like roughing it and camping? Surveyors must be able to face the challenges of traveling, making do with whatever accomodations come to hand. They are faced with new situations every day, meeting new people and attempting to communicate with them in order to gather specific information. They work very closely with a team of nationals in order to determine what the Bible translation and literacy needs are for the region.
As much as we’d like to translate Scripture into every language and dialect in the world, it isn’t a very realistic goal. Language survey helps us determine where the greatest needs are. Language Survey, as the name implies, is the process whereby missionaries travel to designated areas to interview people and test their knowledge of specific languages, i.e. research and analyze data.
