In Depth Investigation of Mission
The word "idiom" is frequently used in the world of Bible translation. One
definition of an idiom is a style or manner of expression peculiar to a
given people. We use idioms all the time. We keep tabs on things,
make mountains out of molehills, jump the gun, and then can’t make heads or
tails out of it. If you try to translate these expressions into another
language, you might have a hard time conveying the correct meaning. Bible
translators run into this problem all the time while translating Scripture.
So why IDIOM? Because through our workshops we want to help you understand
what it is that an LBT missionary goes through on the field. We want to give
you a taste of the major parts of missionary life with LBT, and idioms are a
part of that. When you join us for the three day workshop in Aurora, Ill., you
will be participating in an In Depth Investigation of Mission. And just as our
missionaries have fun learning idioms on the field, you will have fun learning
about life as an LBT missionary through our I.D.I.O.M. at the Service Center.
IDIOM Coming again to Aurora, Ill. May 29-31, 2008 and August 7-9, 2008!
The next IDIOM will be held at the
Service Center in Aurora, Ill. this coming May 29-31 and August 7-9. Participants should
arrive sometime during the afternoon of May 28th or August 6th in order to get to their
provided housing for the evening. Sessions will begin at 8:30am on the following Thursday morning and end after lunch on Saturday. Be prepared for fun, interactive
sessions as you learn about LBT's missionaries' role in translation,
literacy, scripture use, vernacular media, and ethnomusicology.
The registration deadline for May's upcoming IDIOM event is May 12th and the registration for August's IDIOM is July 23rd. If

The Details
IDIOM is a FREE event. We provide
your food and housing at no cost to you for the three days you are with us.
If you are flying in to either of the airports in the Chicagoland area, we
will also arrange to have you picked up and taken back when IDIOM is over.
